Our Installs - In Depth
Here at Garden State Modelworks, we do much more than the typical DCC/Sound installation.
We're proudly an authorized ESU Loksound dealer and only install the cutting edge of DCC technology on the market offered by ESU, utilizing their Loksound Version 5 platform. The Loksound 5 DCC decoders offer the most refined and accurate sound, lighting and operating capabilities.
NixTrainz, the pioneering tech behind the Decoder Buddy Motherboard is our standard for all of our installations. The V5B Decoder Buddy is a 21-pin decoder holder. 21-pin decoders are the current state of the art that provide more separate function outputs and generally provide more power for their functions. The Decoder Buddy allows for the use of the functions provided by the 21-pin decoder. It provides 12 lighting outputs that correspond to the 12 outputs of the ESU 21-pin decoder which in turn gives 12 separate lighting functions. The V5B Decoder Buddy meets NMRA Standards.
Scale Sound Systems, the modern standard for HO Scale speaker systems, is the set standard for all of our installations. Scale Sound Systems provides a 3D-printed speaker fit to optimize the sound capabilities of your model. These speakers, made to seamlessly fit, also use Dipsonic Tuning to enhance the sound quality and operating experience of your model.
Auxiliary Lighting
Along with our DCC/Sound installations, we offer a wide array of auxiliary lighting services to add that extra notch of realism.
Auxiliary lighting is a service we offer here at Garden State Modelworks that adds so many more levels of prototypical accuracy.
Note that LED color temperature can vary slightly with current supply chain limitations.
Here are the following available options currently offered:
Step Lights - Lighting in the prototypically acurate location of the locomotive step wells. These include a 1:87th scale housing provided exclusively to Garden State Modelworks by KV models.
Walkway Lights - Added lighting on the front, rear, and side of the locomotive walkways in their respective prototypically accurate location.
Marker Lighting/Rotary Beacons/Strobes- Added colored marker lighting on the front and rear of the locomotive (where prototypically applicable), Rotary Prime Mfg Beacons on cab roof or other locations, and Strobe lighting.
Ditchlights- Added, or upgraded ditch lighting.
Illuminated Number Boards- Added lighting to your locomotives numberboards, where applicable.
Illuminated Control Stand/Cab Gauges- Added lighting to your locomotives control stand utilizing KV Models highly detailed resin parts.

Prototypical Weathering
We also offer weathering services as an additional offering to existing DCC installations, not stand alone.
Our weathering style is based on the prototype. Please indicate a date by which you wish your model to achieve the level of weathering you are looking for.
Detailing Services
The process of putting together a protoypically accurate model, the smallest and widely overlooked details are what makes or breaks the finished product. In partnership with KV Models, we bring their entire line to the market to be installed on your projects.
Etched Detail Parts
KV Models has been the leader in producing the highest precision and quality etched detail parts since 2017. Here at Garden State Modelworks we are proud to bring the parts and installation service to the market for you to choose from.

Utilizing the parts that KV Models offer, many very in depth details can be applied to models to bring them to a level of unmatched accuracy and quality.
